Capital Grass and the No Men are a band (Ottawa garage folk) from Ottawa, Ontario. These turn of the 21st century troubadours combine old-time clawhammer banjo and garage rock into an energetic hybrid genre called “Garage-Folk”
Formed in 2007 as a six piece, The Flats settled on their current line-up of five members in 2011 and their sound and song writing has been a continuous evolution. Also, realizing that there are too many bands called The Flats in North America, The Flats no longer reflected who they were.
The new name is not a religious reference, but has been a constant presence for the band since it formed. Their weekly song-crafting sessions are a musical communion of sorts, and have taken place across the street from a century old church and cemetery yard in Chelsea, Quebec. The “cemetery gates” and “St Stephens” also evoke the musical legacies of The Smiths and the Grateful Dead. St Stephen’s has been an anchor for the band – it’s the church they don’t attend on a weekly basis.
Born in Bowmanville, Ontario and raised in Shawville, QC, Harris is a 20-year veteran of the Ottawa scene, having played with with the Sunbleached Skulls, Lefty McRighty, George Stryker & the Bandits, Mustang Ranch, The Willies, as well as hosting dozens of songwriter circles, charity and tribute shows.
Over the course of 11 albums, Ottawa area singer songwriter Brock Zeman has built a reputation as a writer of great depth and passion, through his thoughtful, often personal songs. But he’s got a rough, rockin’ side as well. Joined on relentless tours across Western Canada and down to Texas and back by his ever present collaborator, Blair Hogan, and often drummer Dylan Roberts, Zeman and crew can put on a powerful show that has attendees rocking as much as feeling the stories that he tells in song. He could easily be the bastard son of Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle, with a gravelly Tom Waits voice.
Randy Shenanigans is a four piece instrumental surf rock band hailing from the tropical, sunny beaches of Ottawa. Comprised of Matt on Guitar, Gabe on Guitar, Kevin on Bass, and Dan on Drums, these four musical maniacs attempt to combine a variety of different types of music together into one coherent from, from reggae, rock, progressive rock, to doom metal and punk, and oh yeah maybe some surf rock thrown in for good measure. Randy Shenanigans play a ridiculous type of dance music that is almost as ridiculous as their name.
This folk-rock duo is composed of James Walters and Randelle Ashley. Although they did not meet until later on in life, James and Randelle both grew up in the small town of Almonte, Ontario. James started playing guitar at a young age, jamming at family bonfires, while Randelle took piano lessons as a child and later picked up a few other instruments.
Years later, now all grown up, the two finally met and that was it. James, sporting a full beard(I mean full) was nicknamed “Jimmy Tri-Tone” by Randelle for the three colours it seemed to flaunt. The name stuck and they shortly after formed The Jimmy Tri-Tone Band. They now reside together in a small countryside house near White Lake, Ontario and spend most of their time making music in their backwoods studio (which may or may not be an old bus).
